FIBER OPTIC LINEAR HEAT DETECTION SYSTEM

This technology makes use of fiber optic sensor cables, typically over lengths of several kilometers that function as linear temperature sensors. The result is a continuous temperature profile along the entire length of the sensor cable.

OPERATING PRINCIPLE

DTS utilizes the Raman effect to measure temperature. An optical laser pulse sent through the fiber results in some scattered light reflecting back to the transmitting end, where it is analysed. The intensity of the Raman scattering is a measure of the temperature along the fiber. The Raman anti-Stokes signal changes its amplitude significantly with changing temperature; the Raman Stokes signal is relatively stable.

 

The position of the temperature reading is determined by measuring the arrival timing of the returning light pulse similar to a radar echo. This method is called OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry).

Tunnel ventilation is critical for a variety of reasons – for example to ensure an adequate air quality, to control the spread of smoke in case of fire, or to reduce temperatures to acceptable limits. MINERAL INSULATED COPPER CABLE

MICC cable is totally Inorganic and Silicone free. It consists of multiple copper conductors (cores), highly compressed magnesium oxide (insulation) and an outer copper sheath, thats just 2 elements.

This unique composition has an outer melting point of 1083˚C (the melting point of copper) and ultimately 2800˚C for the insulation (magnesium oxide). Note that the internal load carrying cores are protected inside the magnesium oxide insulation.

This allows MICC cable to safely carry a load in temperatures in excess of 1000˚C making it a TRUE fire survival cable. MICC cable is water and oil resistant, can carry greater current ratings, require no conduit for mechanical or vermin protection, UV and radiation resistant and can last in excess of 50 years.

  • British Fire Performance Standards BS EN 50200 PH120 Enhanced Demands 2 Hours Fire Resistance At 850˚C.
  • BS 6387 Category C, W & Z Demands That Cables Perform Safely For 3 Hours At 950˚C. All 3 Tests Performed Using The Same Cable Sample.
