Accoustic Pyrometer

Acoustic Pyrometer is a non-contact measurement device that obtains highly accurate instantaneous gas temperature data from any location within your boiler. The system helps boiler operators significantly reduce slagging by maintaining optimal furnace exit gas temperatures. It also helps you manage critical temperature profiles to aid in emissions reduction, as well as reduce tube damage or leaks by preventing hot spots and thermal shock. Using to balance combustion, you can also improve heat transfer rates.

Prinicple

The principle that the speed of sound through a medium is related to the temperature of the medium. It generates a sound wave with a very sharp rise time and measures the time it takes to traverse the chamber. When the distance between the sound source and the receiver is known, the average temperature between the two points can be determined based on the Universal Gas Law. This is proven physics that requires no calibration.

Key Benefits of using Acoustic Pyrometer:

  • Real-time temperature data helps to control and optimize operation.
  • Better process control improves product quality, and minimizes regrind.
  • Better temperature control helps reduce emissions and NOx generation.
  • Knowing fundamental temperature information can support plant safety.
  • Much more accurate and reliable than thermocouples providing actual average temperature of secondary air gas stream versus a single point surface measurement.

The acoustic Pyrometer significant technical advantages over traditional technologies:

Accuracy:

The PyroMetrix system provides instantaneous, spatially averaged temperatures with less than 1% error. In contrast, thermocouples provide only point measurements and are subject to radiant heat effects, whereas IR pyrometers are spatially and temporally limited and must also compensate for emissivity errors.

Reliability:

The PyroMetrix system is designed for superior reliability in hot, dirty environments. Ports are cleared by periodic air blasts and components are not sensitive to dust or dirt. This contrasts with optical pyrometers, which require optical train maintenance and port cleaning. Routine seal maintenance for the PyroMetrix system is required every 6 to 12 months, and field service is available on a contract or individual visit basis.

Configuration Flexibility:

The PyroMetrix system can be configured to meet your monitoring needs. ASGs or ASRs can be added as desired.
